View the new Art Museum exhibit Billy Hassell: Migration.
Hassell has become recognized for his contemporary views of
birds and other animals depicted in a world bursting with
color and intensity. His work can be seen in numerous public
& private collections, and emphasizes his concern for
vanishing species and the changing nature he enjoyed as a
child. Hassell's work supports the efforts of both the Audubon
Society and the Nature Conservancy of Texas. The National
Endowment for the Arts is helping to support educational programs
associated with the exhibit. Additional funding comes from
the Texas Commission on the Arts, the Amy Shelton McNutt Charitable
Trust, and Behmann Brothers Foundation.
Meet the Artist
Join Texas artist Billy Hassell and University art students
in creating a fanciful nature mural outside the Art Museum.
Hassell will be working with the public from 1- 4 p.m. each
day.
Photo Opportunities
Bring a camera to the wooden cutout photo stand and take pictures
of friends and family striking a pose as imaginary birds and
animals that you'll never see in nature. Become a living character
in your own wildlife painting, located outside the Museum
entrance.
Art Activities
Inside the Museum, escape the heat and visit a series of creative
work stations where families can create "bird wing"
visors, feather paintings, masks and colorful paper birds.
Storytelling/Performance
Every hour, volunteers will lead storytelling about South
Texas wildlife and our unique coastal environment. Performers
and musicians will create a fun family environment, and gallery
tours of Museum exhibits will be available.
